The human brain is one of the most complex and important organs in our body. Without the brain,  we cannot function in our life. The human brain is part of the Central Nervous System (CNS).

In the CNS we distinguish two parts: the brain and the spinal cord. Our brain is made up of different structures that perform different functions. The brain and these structures work in unison and in a single way through thousands of connections created between them as well as the rest of the body. It is worth mentioning that no computer does as many functions as the human brain.

In this presentation, I will focus on the following:

• The Trinitarian Model of the Brain (how our brain evolved):

  • (a) the reptilian cortex or Primal Brain (b) Paleomammalian or Emotional Brain (Limbic System) (c) Neomammalian or Rational Brain (Neocortex)

• The Central Nervous System (CNS)

• The cerebral hemispheres

• Main areas of the cerebral hemispheres:

  • Five lobes: the frontal lobe, the temporal lobe, the parietal lobe, the occipital lobe, the parietal lobe

• Rhomboid brain (posterior brain)

• The mesencephalon (midbrain)

• The telencephalon (the cerebellum/ anterior brain)

• The basal ganglia

• Diseases related to brain dysfunction
